MOTHER MABEL SMITH

Evangelist Mabel Smith was born on August 13, 1918. She was raised and educated in the public school system in Greensboro, North Carolina.

According to the plan of God, Evangelist Smith accepted Christ as her Savior in 1941, Detroit, Michigan under the pastorate of Elder Rimson.

After her marriage to Ornell Smith (demised in 1987), God led them to evangelize in the hedges and highways of Greensboro, North Carolina in 1959. They used the tent services, houses, warehouses, and street ministries to reach God's people and build his Kingdom. That began the birthing of our church.

As a young woman, Sister Smith faced death through a rare child birth, from which only one out of one hundred usually survives. Enduring this ordeal, God commissioned her to "go and tell His people that it was holiness or hell." She made Him a vow and followed the will of God.

Armored and anchored with the scripture 1 Peter 3:9, Sister Smith accepted the challenge to seek the lost, lame, and oppressed at any cost.

Evangelist Smith preached the Word over radio stations WQMG-AM for twenty-seven years and over WTNC for two years. Many souls were saved, healed, and blessed in her ministry.

She was a strong support and helpmeet to her husband as they developed and preached throughout the State of North Carolina. The Sanford District consisted of ten churches during that time: Rescue Temple I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, Friendship Temple, Back to the Bible C.O.G.I.C., and Evangel Temple.

Evangelist Smith was noted for being a willing and influential volunteer in the Greensboro area. She carpooled for the young and aged. She had a nursing home ministry and a prison ministry.

Evangelist Smith was most often fondly called, "Mother Smith" because of the motherly love she so freely exudes. She met no strangers and was a lover of people. Mother Smith ministered from the East coast to the West coast, from the North to the South. Her morals are above reproach. She had a message from the Lord for her time. Her labor will not be in vain for many, many souls were saved under the ministry and have begun churches throughout the world. To God be the Glory for Mother and Evangelist Mabel Ann McMurry Smith! You will not be forgotten because of the many sons and daughters you have brought forth in this ministry.
